For many of us, working from home has been a somewhat welcome option during the various lockdowns across Australia. As we move into a “covid-normal” future, large companies and facilities management companies are urgently reviewing the ventilation in their offices. Improved air circulation cycles and cross ventilation from open windows and doors will be part of the new landscape as we repopulate our offices.
BUT…. What happens in smaller businesses with limited ability to change the environment within an office? An air-purifier may be an option. Air purifiers or scrubbers work by drawing particulate matter from the air, pass it through HEPA filters, and return filtered air back. By themselves, they will not completely eliminate the risk of airborne transmission of virus particles, but when combined with other covid safe practices (social distancing, mask wearing and hand hygiene), are a useful adjunct to keep employees safe.
Before rushing out to buy a commercial air purifier, do a bit of research on the unit that best suits your circumstances. The University of Melbourne have recently evaluated a range of models at different price points, with the link provided below. We are all looking forward to getting back to the office as quickly and safely as we can.
What is changing in your office in readiness for a return to a “new” normal?
